Below is the introduction to my article on how to go about buying organic food easily and affordably. Links to each part are within the introduction. I wrote it because many people, maybe you, need facts and information about buying organic food before trying it. Please contact us if you need any help.

Buy organic food with confidence

Although the yearly spend of organic food in the UK has risen to £2 billion, buying organic food is still shunned by many of us. This is for two main reasons

  • Some people are swayed by anti-organic campaigners, who deny the benefits of organic food.

  • Some are put off by the myth that organic food is more expensive then conventional, intensively farmed non-organic produce.
The following three-part article (links within this introduction), gives a clear explanation as to why we should all be buying organic food -
why buy organic?

We begin by looking at research that has been carried out which concludes that organically produced food is healthier and safer.

A suggestion is also made as to why anti-organic campaigners produce research that concludes negatively for organic produce.

The argument between the two camps leaves many of us bewildered and not knowing which way to turn. This results in many people continuing to consume non-organic food that is produced by a system that focusses on being quick and cheap rather than on quality.

Obviously it is in the interests of millions of those who are involved in the whole process of conventional production, and earn a living from it, to deny the benefits of organic food production. This is understandable.

In doing so though, the health and safety of the human race, animals, and the environment is disregarded. Please click on benefits for a look at health and safety issues in terms of organic and non-organic food production.

The taste of food is also sacrificed. Constantly eating bland tasting foods (and it is bland compared to the taste of organic produce) may be the reason so many people seek solace in junk food. Junk food is full of sugar and salt.

There are of course many people who have an idea of the benefits to be had by switching to organic food, but believe that buying organic food would break their budget. Part 2 – you CAN afford it shows that, in fact, we do not pay more for organic produce. You may find the breakdown of how much we pay for conventional produce, food for thought!

As the article points out, we can only spend what we have. For many of us our income only matches our outgoings, and so called ‘luxuries’ are not an option.

Well, bearing in mind the health and safety issues involved, buying organic food would be a necessity rather than a luxury. That aside, there are ways to afford the transition.

In Part 3 - Ways to afford it we take a look at how Lesley Waters affords to feed her family of four on organic food. You may be surprised at how cheap some organic products, like milk for example, are. There are also ways of using different types of supply, like farmer markets and box schemes, which can safeguard your budget.

Everyone can enjoy the incredible benefits of organic food if they know how to make it affordable. Learn how in this article. Click here for reasons to buy organic food?
