Organic pet foods for Healthy Pets
Benefits of Organic Pet Foods
Organic foods may also cause pets to eat less and have fewer stools, which cause them to benefit more from the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients contained in the foods. Some of the other benefits to animals that are fed on organically produced pet food and treats include:
People have been eating organically made products for quite some time so it's no wonder the trend has spread to our pets.
How to Read Pet Food LabelsBe sure not to confuse "natural" with ‘organic’ pet food, as the two are actually different. For this reason it's important to read every label, and also understand what it is you should be looking for. The terms free range, naturally fed, and hormone or pesticide free are commonly seen on labels for both human and pet foods. Free range poultry indicates that the chickens were allowed to roam out of their cages, and naturally fed means they were allowed to feed normally from the ground. However, it's also important that the foods they eat are also organically grown in order to be sure of no exposure to pesticides or chemicals. If this is so then they will be labelled certified organic. If a product contains between 70 and 94% organic ingredients, the label may read "made with organic ingredients." If a product is made from at least 95% organic ingredients, the package may include the word ‘organic’ or use it in its advertising. Look for terms such as ‘additives’, ‘antioxidants’ ‘colouring’ and ‘preservatives’. If you see any of them then it is not a certified organic pet food.
Tips for Buying Organic Pet FoodDetermine if the product meets either European Union or USDA standards at the very least. In the UK I would recommend certification by Soil Association (Code UK5) Evaluate nutritional ratios and ensure that the food provides your pet with balanced nutrition. Ensure that the food developers are knowledgeable about your specific pet and have been specifically trained to develop such food. For instance, if your beloved pet is a parrot then you should choose organic food that has been developed and tested by avian veterinarians as they will be more aware of your parrot's unique nutritional need. If possible, only buy in bulk after you've determined whether or not your pet actually likes the new food. Be sure to check any organic food's expiration date, which should always be listed somewhere on the packaging. Store your organic pet food in clear plastic containers to keep it fresh and safe from contamination. When switching your pet's food, use the gradual approach, replacing their old food with the new in increasing amounts each day until the old is completely phased out. A period of about 7 to 10 days is usually a good time frame for most pets to make the transition. Contact your pet food retailer or manufacturer with any questions or concerns you may have about your pet’s food. Let's have a look at buying organic pet foods online by clicking here
